It's hard to believe that The Bellamy Brothers have been around for thirty years now with 49 albums, including compilations.
Jesus Is Coming, their latest release, is also the band's first Gospel music release. Unlike some other recent Gospel style country artist releases that featured remakes of classic hymns Jesus Is Coming features 12 new songs along with a gospel remix.
"We've done gospel songs here and there over the years," say Howard Bellamy, "...and we've always wanted to record a gospel album. Gospel was really the first music we sang."
While the songs found on Jesus Is Coming deal with some serious issues it also has that quirky Bellamy Brothers humor that fans are use to hearing.
The release starts off with what is also the first single from the album, "Drug Problem." The song deals with the problem of drug rehabs and the need to get back to a time when drug meant entirely something else. The song talks about being drug to church, family reunions, grandpa's farm or similar things that laid a solid foundation in a young persons life to grow on.
The Bellamy Brothers grew up like that and started out life with a strong foundation of faith. Even though they wondered away trying different things, especially during the turbulent 1960's, in the end they came back to that original faith. The band chronicles that journey on track-4, "Grandma's God."
The song that probably best show the brothers quirky tongue-in-cheek humor is track- 3, "Lord Help Me Be the Kind of Person (My Dog Thinks I Am)." For those of you long time fans of the group you'll also find familiar sounding songs like, "Old Hippie III," the saved version, and "Let Your Love Flow," the gospel mix version of their first hit song.
This release takes a look at what's happening in the world now and lets people know that there is hope, grace, and redemption available for those that seek out the Lord.
You can also hear the next generation of Bellamy's on the song, "You're the World," which features David's sons Jesse and Noah Bellamy.
How about any more gospel releases from them? "We could write endless songs," Howard says of the inspiration they get from their faith in God. "It just came naturally. It never really felt like work and I hope we get to do another one."
Whether you're new to the Bellamy Brother's music or a longtime fan Jesus Is Coming should be on your must buy music list.
